N8 Route (Bloem to Kimberley)...
The Route cuts across the most central parts of the province. It originates from the heart of the city of Bloemfontein and snakes through the adjacent rural towns of the Southern Free State. On the old road the first you come across is Dealesville where one can be retreat and grab the fresh farm biltong and a drink. About 40km further lies the tranquil town of Boshof.
This town was one famous for diamond diggings. However the diamonds were exhausted and the mines closed down. As a result local businesses and communities suffered the consequences. The Boshof communities are currently exploiting its rich mining history into the tourism attractions. Mining operations can be visited and there are emerging game safaris which are currently opening within the district.
The city of Kimberley is the next stop from Boshof. Kimberley is the world's most famous diamond mining area since early 1800. The biggest diamond excavation is found here where the most famous diamonds were discovered. Your journey in Kimberley will not be completed before the visit to the tramways and the big mine hole.
