Archaeology / Palaeontology Route...
The Motheo District is rich in archaeology and palaeontology heritage and much of it is kept at the National Museum in Bloemfontein. The Archaeology route begins with a visit at the National Museum thereafter you are guided to either Florisbad for the visit of an excavation site where a 260 000 year old skull was discovered in 1932. Alternatively you can be guided through the snaky N8 route to Ladybrand to visit the largest protected rock art site in the country. In the neighbouring famrs of Ladybrand District there are more than 300 rock art sites which could be visited through prior arrangements with a local information office / local tour operator.
