Many believe that the only way to truly get to know an area is to get to know its people and see how they live. The Free State presents several opportunities to become better acquainted with its diverse population. The population is an interesting mixture of mainly Afrikaans-speaking white people and mainly Sotho-speaking black people.
While the two groups certainly have differences in their cultures, they have one thing in common - they are relaxed and friendly and welcome visitors with open arms. No one feels a stranger for long in the Free State and it is easy to make new friends here. There are several opportunities for township tours, farm holidays and visits to cultural villages. This article only highlights a few options.
